Buried beneath the surface for nearly 100 million years, a piece of this Spinosaurus’ spine bone finds its way into a one-of-a-kind heirloom chef’s tool.Crafted in south-western Ireland at the studio of Fingal Ferguson, this chef’s nakiri and its paleologically embellished handle are far from extinction. Designed to chop vegetables large and small, Fingal shapes Japanese-made, suminagashi-clad VG10 stainless steel into a large, 198mm / 7.8″ long and 66mm tall profile with convex primary bevels, a hard, thin, razor-sharp edge, and a beautiful finish. Balancing a touch in front of the blade’s rounded and polished choil, this stunning and storied tool moves naturally and steadily in the hand. Comfort and control are provided by a handle sculpted in Fingal’s well-loved profile that delivers a slim, slightly tapered rear portion that gives way to a finger swell that users of all grips and cutting styles appreciate. Forming this ergonomic profile is dark, elegant hornbeam wood inlaid with a detailed mosaic pin in the rear, and capped at the front by the ring of fossilized Spinosaurus bone jacketed by spacers of nickel and finished with a bolster of carbon fiber.
