Bladesmith and artist Joshua White gets our hearts beating with each new build, and that certainly holds true for this boldly styled, all-business petty chefknife. The blade, 164mm / 6.5″ long by 53mm tall to pack big utility into a compact profile, is forged by hand at Joshua’s New Jersey studio from stunning, high-contrast carbon damascus whose pattern boasts mesmerizing twists and turns withcharacter and an organic air unique to each side. Wide as is emerges from the handle, measuring a full 5.3mm across above the heel, the rounded spine then tapers steadily and uniformly forward towards a glass-thin, needle-like tip perfect for detail work. The blade’s symmetrical geometry is superbly honed, tapering downward through expertly shaped convex bevels to a very thin, very sharp, near-zero (ie. almost forgoing the need for a secondary edge bevel) edge. Complementing the one-of-a-kind blade is a handle designed not only for comfort and control, but for a handsome aesthetic in Joshua’s trademark style. With wonderful attention to each and every detail, butterscotch micarta is laid atop a black frame that features carving and knurled stretches on top and bottom with a tapered, sculpted front ferrule, and matching, knurled inlays on the left and right. At the rear is an exposed retention bolt allowing for removal of the handle for care and maintenance.
