In one of this bladesmith’s signature styles that layers stainless cladding over a core of homemade, high-carbon damascus steel, all taken to a hand-sanded, 5000-gritfinish for a near-mirror polished sheen, comes a bunka by Greg Cimms. Forged by hand at his New York studio, the 223mm / 8.8″ cutting edge is thin and razor-sharp beneath convex bevels that reveal the damascus core as though its cloak has been blown by the wind. Long and straight with a 48mm-tall heel, the blade will excel at slicing work, from delicate cuts of fish to parting vegetables with the especially slim, pointed tip, while retaining ample versatility to chop and do it all in the chef’s kitchen. As polished and handsome as the steel is a handle carved from beautiful curly narra wood that the New York bladesmith pairs with dark bog oak, maple, nickel silver, and a hand-peened collar of bronze. Our first delivery from Greg this year, we’re honored to present such an exemplary rendition of his functional art.
