New work from Germany’s OliverMrtens is here in a build that represents beautifully the uniquely designed, purposefully built tools we’ve come to expect from thistalented maker. In his preferred 1.2419.05 tungsten-carbon steel, with its high toughness and wear resistance, thin, hard edge, and ability to stay sharp cut after cut, the 211mm / 8.3″ blade delivers a thin edge beneath satin-finished convex bevels. With versatility and uncompromising performance top of mind, Oliver creates a wonderful full-distal taper along the blade’s spine culminating at a needle-like tip perfect for delicate, detailed work and long, precise slices. Above the primary blade bevels are flats that bare the hammer marks of the steel’s hand-forged origins. For comfort and control in a wa-handle rendition Oliver has become known for, heirloom fit black G10 meets a piece of striking Norway Maple with grain and color to catch every eye. A single, flush, black G10 pin completes the hidden-tang construction.
