To turn heads, to melt hearts, and prepare feasts like never before, artist Korben Bloomfield has crafted a santoku of extraordinary caliber. Standing 62mm tallat the heel with a 242mm / 9.5″ edge that culminates at an extremely fine, needle-like tip, Korben delivers a one-of-a-kind tool with the utility and cutting power to impress the home cook and professional chef alike. A mesmerizing vein of high-polished, pure nickel runs the length of a blade forged by hand from homemade san mai steel, the marks of its hammered origins visible throughout the flats and tang where the finish matches beautifully the aesthetic of the handle’s textured, patinated bronze ferrule. Balancing around an inch in front of the edge’s heel with wonderfully honed convex bevel geometry above a slim but sturdy edge, the blade is positioned to move effortlessly through nearly any ingredient; the overall weight of this oversized creation is spot on. The dark etch, hard, food-safe wax finish, and high-polish sheen are all purposefully designed to add to the blade’s efficacy on the cutting board as well as to reduce the amount of care and need for oiling. Returning to the handle, beyond the beautifully shaped bronze is a gorgeous piece of dyed and stabilized horse chestnut wood with heirloom-fit, domed, and high-polished steel pin which allows for handle removal in the case that maintenance is needed. From back to front and top to bottom, this large and beautiful cutting tool leaves nothing to want.
