Tohka Champagne Flute

Pushing the limits of what is possible, this elegant champagne flute designed by Masaharu Asano is turned using traditional techniques by only the most skilledYamanaka Lacquerware craftspeople. The betula grossa wood, known for its quality and durability, is harvested and prepared using the takidori approach whereby the material is cross cut along its longitudinal grain (tatekidori) and then delicately and meticulously turned to create a slender, elegant stem, precisely shaped foot, and a seamless, glass-thin bowl. Made one at a time, the Tohka collection is brought to life in this region of Japan famed for its lacquerware for hundreds of years, a craft practiced by generation after generation of artisan, including by Gato Mikio since its founding in 1908. Available in black and natural wiped lacquer finishes applied with the traditional fukiurushi method, a more beautiful champagne flute you will not soon find.
