Crafted, and serrated, entirelyby hand at his Madison, Wisconsin studio, house-made mosaic damascus steel forms a 302mm blade; nearly twelve inches of razor-sharp teeth with which to effortlessly slice through loaves of sourdough, rye, whole wheat, and the rest. The blade’s slight curvature allows it to move fluidly for long, precise cuts, even if a bundt cake, bagel, or sandwich takes the place of the fresh loaf. Then, as artful as the blade comes a beautiful cocobolo handle which Isaiah has accented with homemade shibuichi (an alloy of copper and silver) that forms front and rear collars, each with hand-forged details and elegantly patinated finish. Finally, to top it all off; the icing on the bread, if you will; resting inside the shibuichi at the handle’s back face, is a striking, domed inlay of turquoise stone.
