Innovations in metal by the hands of Vermont bladesmith Nick Anger continue with the creation of an exquisite chef knife built for all manner ofdaily kitchen work and designed to catch eyes wherever it cuts. Thin, light, and quick in the hand, the full-size, 212mm / 8.3″ blade is forged from homemade damascus (more on that in a moment) and finished with symmetrical, compound ‘S-grind’ geometry, a full-distal taper along the rounded spine, and thin, sharp edge in a profile with boundless versatility. Balanced just at the blade’s 61mm-tall heel, a slight touch of flexibility is present in its final inches. Polished to a beautiful sheen, the damascus, from sculpted integral bolster through to the fine, needle-like tip, bears a pattern that is the result of a fresh take on twisted damascus in which Nick has created the pattern, then cut, meticulously repositioned each piece, and drawn out the final product with his hammer just so, forming the head-turning aesthetic seen here. To complete the handle beyond the steel bolster is a ring of black micarta and piece of black and white ebony carved into a comfortable, unassuming, and gorgeous shape that is as natural in the hand as a chef can ask for.
